Revisiting Sir Michael

I’m dipping back into Not Like a Lady in the run up to Crown of Hearts coming out in April.

(In fact, there’s a rare 99 cent sale on Not Like a Lady right now.)

I still adore Michael, and he’s not like any of my other heroes. He just does NOT know how to talk to women, and yet when he screws up, he doesn’t just apologize, he takes it farther.

He’ll say the most appalling thing, and then when Letty asks him if he is trying to hurt her feelings, he becomes this stupid shaggy puppy. In fact, when Letty, who definitely comes from an abusive background, tries to say “Oh. I suppose I caused some of that,” he goes all the way in the other direction, assuring her that NO one should speak to her that way, and that he’s an idiot.

And he doesn’t do it twice.

Some people’s fantasies may include men who are mean, or transforming men who are mean, but mine don’t. Michael is never mean. When he’s thoughtless or dumb, he corrects himself. And he shows with his actions every day that his gruffness hides a big goofy heart.

I love visiting him again!
